Description:

Frozen baby lobsters are small, tender, and sweet crustaceans that are harvested and then rapidly frozen to preserve their freshness. These lobsters are typically about 3 to 4 inches in length, and their meat is known for its delicate, buttery texture and mild, slightly sweet flavor. The shells are typically bright red or orange, and the meat inside is often used in gourmet dishes, seafood platters, or appetizers. The freezing process helps to lock in the natural flavor and ensures that the lobsters are available year-round.

When cooking frozen baby lobsters, they can be steamed, boiled, grilled, or incorporated into various recipes like soups, pastas, or seafood salads. Depending on the preparation method, the meat can be tender and succulent with a light, sweet taste reminiscent of more mature lobsters but with a finer texture.

Cold Water Thawing (Faster Method)

  • Step 1: Keep the lobster in its packaging or place it in a sealed plastic bag.
  • Step 2: Submerge the lobster in a bowl of cold water for 30mins
  • Step 3: Change the water every 10 minutes to ensure it stays cold.

Cooking Suggestion:

Garlic Butter Baby Lobster

  • Instructions:
    • Thaw the baby lobsters, then remove the meat from the shells, keeping the shells for presentation if desired.
    • Sauté minced garlic in butter until fragrant. Add lobster meat and cook for 3-4 minutes, just until heated through.
    • Stir in lemon juice, chopped parsley, and a pinch of chili flakes for extra heat.
  • Serve: Over pasta, or enjoy as an appetizer with crusty bread.

To steam a lobster for 30 minutes

Boil Water: Fill a large pot with about 2-3 inches of water and add a pinch of salt and pepper for seasoning. Bring the water to a boil over high heat.

Place Lobsters in the Steamer: Once the water is boiling, place a steaming rack or basket in the pot. Carefully add the lobsters to the steamer, ensuring that they’re not submerged in the water. Cover the pot tightly with a lid.

Steam the Lobster: Steam the lobster for about 30 minutes. The exact time can vary depending on the size of the lobster. A good rule of thumb is to steam lobsters for 7-8 minutes per pound.

Check for Doneness: The lobster’s shell should turn bright red when done, and the meat should be opaque. You can also pull one of the antennae gently; if it comes off easily, the lobster is cooked.

Serve: Once done, remove the lobster from the steamer with tongs and let it cool slightly before cracking open.
