Cooking Suggestions:
Braised Pork Shoulder
Braised pork shoulder is a comforting, savory dish where the pork cooks slowly in a flavorful liquid, resulting in rich, melt-in-your-mouth meat.
Ingredients:
- 1 bone-in or boneless pork shoulder (4-6 pounds)
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 cup dry white wine (or beer)
- 1 tbsp thyme
- 2 bay leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Season the pork shoulder with salt and pepper. In a heavy Dutch oven or large oven-safe pot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Brown the pork on all sides, about 10 minutes.
- Remove the pork and set aside. Add the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery to the pot and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Pour in the wine to deglaze the pot, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom. Add the broth, thyme, and bay leaves.
- Return the pork shoulder to the pot, cover, and transfer it to the oven. Braise for 3-4 hours, or until the pork is fork-tender.
- Once cooked, remove the pork and let it rest before shredding it with two forks. You can strain and reduce the cooking liquid for a flavorful sauce to drizzle over the meat.
